Introduction
Smart lubrication control with GOcontroll helps heavy-duty machines run longer with less downtime.

Introduction
Smart lubrication control with GOcontroll is becoming a practical step toward extending the life of heavy-duty machinery. Excavators, loaders, forestry machines, and mining equipment rely on stable lubrication to avoid wear and unexpected failures. The GOcontroll Moduline IV provides a rugged modular controller built for demanding environments. With up to eight IO modules, multiple CAN interfaces, and Linux-based flexibility, it can operate pumps, read pressure sensors, and manage lubrication valves with precision. Because the system uses real-time data and clear dashboards, maintenance becomes predictable instead of reactive.
Why the Moduline IV Fits Heavy-Duty Lubrication
The Moduline IV is built around an i.MX 8M Mini processor and includes four CAN interfaces, a LIN interface, high-brightness RGB LEDs, and a CNC-milled aluminium enclosure designed to withstand harsh conditions. Its IP-rated housing and pressure-equilibrium valve make it suitable for construction, forestry, and mining environments where shock, dust, and temperature changes are common.
With eight module slots, developers can add high-current output modules to run pumps, input modules to monitor sensors, or 4–20 mA modules for industrial-grade transducers. This modular approach allows a lubrication system to scale from small single-line systems to complex multi-point networks.
Precise Pump, Valve, and Pressure-Sensor Control
A lubrication cycle depends on accurate timing and feedback. The Moduline IV can read K30 supply voltage, input values, temperatures, and any connected module signals. With output modules installed, the controller can switch pump motors, energize solenoid valves, and trigger zone actuators.
Using sensor inputs, the controller measures pressure buildup, flow confirmation, or reservoir level. When combined with CAN data from the host machine—such as load, engine hours, or working mode—the lubrication logic can adjust automatically. This ensures grease or oil is dosed only when needed, reducing waste and improving component life.
Real-Time Logic Using Node-RED
Node-RED is preinstalled on the Moduline IV and can run flows at startup. GOcontroll provides dedicated nodes for reading module data, controlling outputs, and interacting with the system. This makes it simple to build lubrication logic based on:
-
Time intervals
-
Machine load from CAN
-
Temperature conditions
-
Pressure feedback
-
Fault triggers or warnings
A dashboard can show live reservoir levels, cycle history, pressure curves, temperature conditions, and system performance. Because the controller supports Ethernet, USB, and optional wireless options, maintenance staff can review data remotely or perform updates without opening the machine.
Advanced Control With Simulink
For more complex lubrication strategies, users can compile MATLAB Simulink models directly for the Moduline IV. The GOcontroll blockset exposes module IO, CAN, system information, and even LED control.
Simulink makes it easier to test model-based lubrication algorithms, such as adaptive dosing based on cycle trends or dynamic adjustments during high-load operation. After compiling, the model can be uploaded through the supported services, and the controller boots into the software within a few seconds.
Predictive Maintenance and Service Efficiency
Smart lubrication reduces friction and heat, two key contributors to component wear. By logging pressure buildup, cycle duration, and reservoir status, the Moduline IV helps teams spot early signs of blockages, pump issues, or depleted supplies.
Node-RED flows can send alerts when cycle pressure is too low, when a valve does not respond, or when a reservoir needs filling. This predictive approach avoids unplanned downtime, which is costly in heavy-duty industries. With remote dashboarding, service teams can monitor machine health across multiple sites.
Built for Harsh Environments and Long-Term Use
Heavy-duty machinery demands long-lasting electronics. The Moduline IV enclosure is CNC-milled from EN-AW5083 aluminium, offering excellent thermal stability and physical protection. With load-dump protection and a wide operating voltage range, the controller stays reliable even on unstable machine power systems.
Thanks to modular IO, flexible software, and stable Linux services such as connectivity guard and auto-shutdown, the controller stays dependable in 24/7 operation. As lubrication systems evolve, users can simply add new modules or update software.
