Security

For prototyping, conceptual designs, debugging and easy connectivity, a low entry to your controller is mandatory. Because of this reason our controllers are programmed with standard passwords (referred to in this knowledge base). To provide maximal flexibility, the controllers standard comes with root permissions. A so called root-root login provides maximal flexibility but also vulnerabilities. When deploying your controller in the field, where potential other malicious people, have access to the controller, it is strongly recommended to bring a certain level of security to your controller.

Change Wi-Fi password

When your GOcontroll Moduline controller is equipped with optional Wi-Fi hardware, an access point is activate by default. Changing the Wi-Fi password is a first step.

Switch off services

Use the Web UI to switch off services which are not directly required but which can potentially introduce some security risks.

Disable root login

It is recommended to switch off root login and use an user account to login to the controller. A user account is already installed by default with a default password. After switching off root login, it is strongly recommended to change the default password of the user account. This article describes the required steps.

All commands provided in this knowledge base are based on root permission login. When root login is disabled, user GOcontroll needs to add sudo (super user do) in front of the commands to have the right permissions to execute these commands.
