Linux images
GOcontroll publishes complete Linux images for the Moduline M1, L4 and HMI1 controllers. An image contains the bootloader, the Linux kernel and the Debian root file system with the GOcontroll software installed. This page describes what the latest release contains, what has changed and which versions of the GOcontroll packages a freshly flashed controller runs.
To install an image on a controller, see Re-flashing the controller.
Release 2026-10-29_6.12.87
Released on 2026-10-29. Debian 13 (Trixie) for arm64, with Linux kernel 6.12.87.
This release brings new root file systems with the latest GOcontroll packages for all three controllers, and a new kernel for the Moduline M1 and L4. The kernel of the Moduline HMI1 and the bootloaders are unchanged.
| Component | Moduline M1 and L4 | Moduline HMI1 |
|---|---|---|
| Bootloader | U-Boot, unchanged | U-Boot, unchanged |
| Linux kernel | 6.12.87, updated | 6.12.87, unchanged |
| Root file system | Debian 13 (Trixie), updated | Debian 13 (Trixie), updated |
Fixed in this release:
- A GOcontroll service that you disabled was enabled again by
apt upgrade, and a masked service made the update fail. Services now keep their state; only a first install enables them. - On a controller whose serial number was never programmed,
go-sn readprinted a format error. It now reportsNo serial number programmed. - Moduline M1 and L4: an I2C transfer that lost arbitration on a busy bus failed at once. The I2C driver now retries it.
- The journal showed a wrong version for go-auto-shutdown. It now shows the installed version.
- After a single-slot module update, go-modules no longer touches the other modules.
- go-identify turns the status LEDs off again after the identify flash.
The image is set up for the GOcontroll apt repository on apt.gocontroll.tech.
A full flash keeps the serial number, except on older controllers that kept it in the last sector of their internal memory: they lose it on their first full flash. Write it again with go-sn write, as described under After flashing.
On a Moduline M1 or L4, install the new kernel only with the full image or the kernel-only update for your controller, so that the kernel and the modules in the root file system match.
Note: on a freshly flashed controller, run apt-get update before you install a package. The image ships without package lists, so apt-get install cannot resolve dependencies until the lists are fetched once.
Installed GOcontroll packages

Downloading an image
The images are on the GOcontroll download portal at images.gocontroll.tech. You sign in with your e-mail address and a link that you receive by e-mail. Each controller has its own zip file, and the Moduline HMI1 has one for each hardware version and display adapter board. Re-flashing the controller explains which zip file you need and how you flash it.
